Artist Residency Programs

Artist Residency Programs provide a wonderful opportunity for students to work with
professionally trained artist.

We currently offer three Artist Residency programs to Grades K-12. Programs are offered on a semester or annual term.

Theatre Alive: The Playwright's Corner

Offered to Grades 3-5
The Playwright's Corner is a wonderful program that teaches students the process of creative writing and storytelling. Students read and analyze several plays and stories and learn to identify and recognize major and minor characters, plot, climax and resolution. The program curriculum works well with Reading and Language Arts classes and is designed to supplement what students are currently learning in the classroom. Students will complete several reading and writing comprehension exercises before embarking on authoring a professional short play.

Theatre Alive: Acting 101

Offered to Grades 3-5
Theatre Alive! is an innovative program that actively engages students in the learning process. Our program is designed to enrich the theatre experience by equipping students with the skills necessary to stage their own productions at their schools. Theatre Alive! is an integrated arts program that is designed to compliment Reading and Language Arts classes. Professional artists work with students and teachers in the classroom. Designed in alignment with the Alabama Course of Study: Arts Education, Theatre Alive! employs a three part learning system: Educate, Identify and Demonstrate. Through the program, students have the opportunity to analyze and discuss several plays and stories as well as learn theatre terminology, acting techniques and production skills.

Participating students at South Hampton Elementary work on writing plays.

Students at Oliver Elementary design mock set designs.

Filmmaking 101

Offered to Grades 9-12
The Filmmaking 101 program takes students on the journey of filmmaking from developing an idea to filming an actual project. During the program term, students learn narrative and documentary-style writing formats as well as how to turn their ideas into working screenplays. The program also offers a videography component where students learn how to use varying camera shots, develop storyboards and edit footage. Taught by a local, professional filmmaker, Filmmaking 101 is an integrated arts program. EAC Artists work alongside teachers in the classroom. Film 101 can be offered in conjunction with Language Arts, Marketing, Coordinated Studies and Media Technology classes. Participating students will write and film a documentary or PSA.
